The Nature of Treatment

Question: Analys of how white Americans attempted to integrate or segregate and control minority groups in the late 19th century and how these minority groups responded. Answer: Introduction: The essay discusses about the nature of treatment by Americans towards other ethnic groups and immigrants from Asia and Latin America. The easy shall discuss a number of instances that created impact in the understanding of the racial discrimination and dominating nature of the White Americans towards other residents of the country. In the Southern horror, Wells Barnet highlighted the increasing number of murders of the black people in the South. The author highlighted the unwillingness of the Federal government to undertake responsibilities towards such oppressions. Such negligence and discrimination against the different groups of people was a regular instance in America[1]. Several approaches were made to create a good impression among the ethnic and the racial groups in America during the elections. Booker T. the African American spokesperson presented a powerful speech in front of the Americans to create an impact on the mind of the American regarding racial progress in the Sout h[2]. In The School Days of Indian Girl, the author being an activist pointed out her personal experience of encountering with a white American and the effort needed to adapt with the Native American. Pointing the nation as the Land of Red Apples, the dominating nature of the people has been portrayed by the author. Discussion: It has been found that the Whites had effectively disenfranchised blacks from participating as free men and women even after the Civil War[3]. The rights and opportunities were also snatched from them. These perspectives were evident enough to portray the dominating nature of the Whites towards the other groups. As pointed out by the author[4], that the dominating nature of the Whites became prominent in regular life activities. Immigrants and ethnic groups were treated inhumanly. One of the instances portrayed the Negros as rapists of the White women that damaged the moral reputation of the particular group. Uttering loathsome and repulsive comments on the Negros were common. It was observed that the political spokes person tried to address the Negro race. The leader came out with the perspective that in order to make improvement in the existing situation of the nation, it is important to address the ethnic group existing in the country[5]. This clearly defines that at certain point of time, the leaders made approach to integrate the ethnic groups. However, it can easily be assumed that such changes were solely made for the sake of political reasons because America had been a democratic nation by that time and securing votes from both native and ethnic groups of people became a mandate. The dominating nature of the Americans portrayed the fact that they do not want to entertain any people who do not match their skin color. The land is not for the people from other countries. This clearly pointed out the racist nature of the people[6]. It actually becomes uncomfortable for others in America who is not the native people to survive in the land dominated by white population. This approach was not limited to higher age group of people but school going students also have to face such critical situations. The discriminating nature was very disturbing for the other immigrants or racial population inhabiting in the country. Conclusion: There have been many instances that clearly narrated the dominating and distinguishing nature of Americans and their cruel behavior towards the other races in the country. A number of such instances have been discussed in the essay. It was a challenging phase for the people to survive in that condition. However, situation has seemed to improve a lot with passage of time. The projection of racial and ethnic composition of the Americans has added a large measure of cultural and phenotypic diversity in the recent decades. The boundaries between the racial and the ethnic groups are getting blurred. One of the reasons is the increasing intermarriage and growth of inter-cultural relationship. In the recent time the composition of the population of the country is completely different as it was few decades ago. The ideological presupposition and the mutual racial and ethnic identities have seen to be immutable in the recent scenario. There has been considerable rise of other groups of people in the recent time. In fact, a number of laws and ideologies have also been introduced to show their tolerance towards mixed racial group of people. Reference list: Banks, Kira Hudson.
